(10½x8½"). Rare letter from a frontier woman on a pictorial lettersheet to her mother in New Orleans. The letter itself is mostly concerned with acquaintances, who is doing what, and with whom, "He was just from Nevada where he had seen Rose, she was of course in good health and spirits, as she was going to be married to her partner Mr. Smith, so you see that the prophecy of Mrs. W. is being fulfilled... We have been boarding in a nice Yankey family since we have been here to day we have moved into our new house, of which one room is finished..." The rare lettersheet is a view, looking over one corner of a fenced Portsmouth Square, of the four story EL DORADO, and one story UNION which flank City Hall (former Jenny Lind Theatre); carriages, horsemen, pedestrians, etc. on surrounding streets; United States flag flying from City Hall. Issued by Quirot & Co. Baird 30; Peters, California on Stone, p. 137: “Also issued by Quirot & Co. as ‘Jenny Lind Theatre.'"
