It was O'Reilly's last English tour and he missed his usual bowling partner, Clarrie Grimmett, who had been controversially dropped for Frank Ward However, Australia retained the Ashes. This was the last tour before the war, the next tour, by Bradman's Invincibles, was 10 years away
