Collation: (part I) a 8 b-t 8 . 6 v 6 x 8 (a1r title, a1v text, x8v blank); (part II) A-K 8 . 6 L 8 M-P 8 . 6 Q-R 8 S-U 6 X-AA 8 . 6 BB-DD 6 EE 8 (A1r title, A1v blank, A2r text, EE8v blank); (part III) 1-18 8 . 6 19 6 20 8 21-23 6 24 8 25-27 6 28 8 title, 1/1v blank, 1/2r text, 28/8v blank); (table) 2a-b 8 (a1 blank, a2r Annotatio principalium sententiarum ). 148; 194; 192 leaves; 16-leaf index bound at end. 54 lines and headline, double column, printed shoulder notes. Types: 4*:185G (headlines), 6:108G on smaller body (headings, Psalm quotations), 9:76G (marginalia), 14:285G (titles), 15*:92G (text), 95 bGr (10/5). 3- to 8-line initial spaces with printed guide-letters. Initials, some capital strokes, and paragraph marks supplied in red. (Tear in 3 leaves affecting some text but with minor loss, a few letters lost through adhesion of rubrication.) Binding : contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, triple fillet border on upper cover, each cover with 5 brass bosses and 4 edge-pieces at corners, 2 fore-edge clasps (one clasp missing), remains of paper label on upper cover, spine liner from a ?12th-century manuscript on vellum referring to "aquisgrani", (leather torn from lower spine); modern blue linen solander box. Provenance : few early annotations -- fore-edges lettered M. IO. -- Uelzen, Ministerial Library: ink stamp on first title -- [Hauswedell, Hamburg, 22 May 1973, lot 165] SECOND EDITION of one of St. Augustine's chief exegetical works. The edition was presumably ready for sale by 8 September 1489, when the Cologne bookseller Heinrich Müelich ordered 10 copies from Amerbach (cf. A.
