First and only incunable edition of Augustine’s commentary on the letters of Paul. The printer, Gering, had set up the first press in France with Michael Friburger and Martin Crantz. After a period of time working alone or with others, he partnered with Rembolt, who would later marry printer Charlotte Guillard, and with whom he printed this attractive work. Modern brown morocco (a bit of staining). Provenance: a few marginal notes – Giorgio di Veroli (1890-1952, Italian financier and collector who fled to New York City during WWII; his sale, Parke-Bernet, 28 February 1956, lot 68) – acquired there via Lucien Goldschmidt.
