Prince Tommaso Corsini di Sismano (1835–1919), who in the early 1870s moved with his collection to Palazzo Corsini in Via del Parione, Florence;

On the art market, Genoa, 2017.LiteratureG. Papi, in Paolo Guidotti Pietro Sigismondi e Pietro Paolini tre Pittori Lucchesi nella Roma di Caravaggio, P. Betti and G. Papi (eds), Lucca 2021, p. 50, reproduced in colour p. 52, fig. 27 (as attributed to Paolo Guidotti .ExhibitedFlorence, Palazzo Pitti, Mostra della Pittura Italiana del Seicento e Settecento, 1922, no. 204 (as school of Caravaggio).Catalogue noteThis intriguing portrait most probably dates to circa 1610, and appears to have been influenced to some degree by Caravaggesque models, not least in the still life in the lower left corner. The distinctive and unusual rendering of the sitter's face has led Gianni Papi, however, to associate the portrait with the rather idiosyncratic Lucchese painters working at this time, namely Paolo Guidotti who earned his nickname ‘Il Cavaliere Borghese’ through his work for Pope Paul V in Rome. Papi compares the style and form of the woman's face here to those which appear in Guidotti's Deposition, in the church of San Frediano, Lucca.1
An alternative attribution to Pietro Paolini has been suggested by Professor Jesse Locker, whose report can be accessed here.
