The reverse of the canvases cannot be judged at this time without detaching the boards. Both landscapes read well despite dirty varnish, which is a bit more pronounced on the first painting. UV inspection of the first painting reveals a few repairs in the sky, including a repaired 2 inch tear in the center of the sky and some circular spots at upper left. UV inspection of the second painting reveals a few slightly larger areas of repair in the sky including the upper left corner and two spots in the center of the sky. In both paintings very few retouches are visible in the landscapes themselves. Paintings would likely benefit from a cleaning and/or fresh varnish. A pair, offered in simply carved giltwood frames.
