Attributed to George Albert Frost (American, 1843-1907) Head of a Kirgiz Man. Unsigned, inscribed "...Khirgis [sic]" in pencil beneath the image, inscribed "...Kirghis from Ust Kamenogorsk" on the reverse. Pencil on paper, 10 9/16 x 8 3/8 in., framed. Condition: Foxing, toning, affixed to window mat with cellophane tape at top and bottom. Provenance: Purchased from Michael Krochta, dealer in Russian art, by the present owner. N.B. George Albert Frost was a survey and sketch artist. In 1866 he was assigned to a Western Union survey group in Asia. Later, in 1885, he made a trip to Russia with George Kennan, where he made a number of pencil sketches. The inscription in Russian beneath the image states that the area is Kirgiz and that the man portrayed is a guide named Marazach Aedirorov.
