II affected by damp, occasional marginal soiling), contemporary crimson morocco, gilt panelled sides, backs fully gilt (but restored, extremities rubbed), gilt board edges and turn-ins, g.e. Provenance : Orford bookplate; armorial bookplates of Sir John Hynde Cotton and Philia L. Cotton; H. Buxton Forman, etched bookplate. FIRST EDITION, LARGE PAPER COPY. WALPOLE, Horace. Historic Doubts on the Life and Reign of King Richard the Third , London: for J. Dodsley, 1768. 4°, engraved portrait frontispiece with short fold (slight tear to fold line) and one plate, also folding. FIRST EDITION. Hazen 19. [ Bound with :] HERBERT OF CHERBURY, Edward Herbert, Baron. The Life of Edward Lord Herbert of Cherbury written by himself , edited by Horace Walpole London: for J. Dodsley, 1770. 4°, folding engraved frontispiece after J. Oliver. Previously printed at Strawberry-Hill in 1764. The 2 works bound in contemporary half calf, the volume numbered "4" as part of a larger collection of tracts (joints cracked, extremities rubbed), red speckled edges. The Lives of ... John Leland, Thoms Hearne and Anthony à Wood , edited by W. Huddersford, Oxford: at the Clarendon Press, for J. and J. Fletcher, and Joseph Pote, 1772. 3 parts in 2 volumes, 8°, 3 engraved portraits, 7 plates, 2 folding (vol. I possibly lacking O4 which is a stub, lower margin of G2 in the same vol. torn and crudely-repaired with paper, spotting to titles and preliminaries, occasional soiling), contemporary calf (rebacked, boards worn at extremities). Provenance : J. Reed, 1773, ownership inscription on front free endpaper of the first volume; Logan Pearsall Smith, 1896, pencil inscription to front pastedown. FIRST EDITION. Those of Hearne and A. à Wood autobiographies with additions -- and 21 other volumes, published in the later 18th or early 19th century, some rebound, but the majority in contemporary bindings. (26)
