Provenance : inscription in Latin: this book was given by Abraham Whelocke to John Barnes, and ownership inscription of Johannes Chanetus (dated 24 January 1624) on front endpaper. Second Greek edition. Adams A2097. Athenaeus' work is considered to be the earliest known text on cookery, but it also contains miscellaneous information on music, songs, dances, games, and courtesans.
