New York, 10 May 1849] Broadside (14 ¾ x12 inches, 400x295 mm). Condition: Paper backed, large area of loss to bottom right corner but not affecting text, folds, some losses along the centerfold with portions of a few letters in manuscript facsimile. excessively rare broadside printed immediately following the astor place riot. This broadside was one of two issued by Five Points boss Isaiah Rynders on the night of the riot after the crowd had been dispersed with 22 men left dead. The other broadside called for a mass meeting to be held to “express public opinion upon the lamentable occurrence of last night.” See Cliff, The Shakespeare Riots , p 234.
