Composta da 108 grani divisi in gruppi di 27 da quattro fotou (Teste di Buddha) Tutti in avorio finemente intagliato e pigmentato di rosso corallo nel caso delle teste di Buddha e di verde nei pendenti. Il chaozhu è un rosario basato su quelli buddhisti che fu introdotto nelle cerimonie ufficiali dagli imperatori della dinastia Qing, come riportato nel codice "Illustrated Regulations for the Cerimonial Paraphernalia in the Qing dynasty" a cura di Huangchao liqi tushi. Secondo questo codice il materiale più prezioso nella produzione di questo tipo di collane di corte erano le perle orientali (cfr. la collana imperiale venduta da Sotheby's Hong Kong asta Fine Ceramics and Works of Art 8 aprile 2010 lotto 1813), ma si trovano anche in altri materiali, l'importante era che seguissero i dettami di questo codice che regolamentava il numero di sfere, il fatto che le teste di Buddha dovessero essere di un altro colore o materiale rispetto al resto della collana, le due estensioni...L'importanza rivestita da questo oggetto nelle cerimonie di corte è evidente in un ritrattoYongzheng, ora al Palace Museum di Pechino, in cui l'imperatore indossa un Chao Zhu di perle. All in finely carved ivory and pigmented in green except for the Buddah heads, which are in coral red. The chaozhu is a Rosary, based on the model of the Buddhist ones, which was introduced in official ceremonies of the Qin dynasty emperors, as stated in the code “Illustrated Regulations for the Cerimonial Paraphernalia in the Qing dynasty” by Huangchao Iiqi tushi. According to this text, the most precious material for the production of this kind of court necklaces were the oriental pearls (cf. the imperial necklace sold by Sotheby’s Hong Kong during the auction Fine Ceramics and Works of Art on April 8, 2010, lot 1813), but they exist in other materials as well, the fundamental aspect being that they adhered the instructions of the abovementioned code, regulating the number of beads, the fact that the Buddha heads had to be in another color or material than the rest of the necklace, the two extensions etc. The importance of this kind of court object is clear in a Yongzheng portrait, now at the Palace Museum of Beijing, in which the emperor is depicted wearing a pearl made Chao Zhu.
