Beschreibung:

.69 caliber. 42" barrel secured by three flat, spring-retained barrel bands. SN: NSN. Bright finish, color casehardened lock, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading percussion altered musket. Lock marked with a {Spread-Winged Eagle} / US forward of the hammer and in three vertical lines at the tail SPRING / FIELD / 1839. Breech plug tang date 1840, not uncommon on arsenal altered muskets. Breech with P / {Eagle Head} / V proof and inspection marks. Counterpane with two crisp script cartouches, the ET of Elisha Tobey and the TW of Thomas Warner. An equally crisp script AH of Asahel Hubbard is behind the triggerguard as the final acceptance mark. Retains the original brass front sight on the top strap of the upper barrel band, both sling swivels and a full-length button head ramrod with good threads at the end. Arsenal altered to percussion with the Springfield mating code 3 stamped in the wood between the breech tang and hammer. Overall a really exceptional condition example of an arsenal altered US Model 1828 musket with crisp wood, fine markings and in a wonderful state of preservation. Condition: Fine. Metal with a freckled and lightly oxidized dark gray over steel patina with clear markings throughout. Lock with strong traces of mottled case color. Mechanically functional, fine, bright smooth bore is lightly oxidized. Stock fine, very crisp with sharp edges and a feathery texture. Wood shows only some scattered bumps, dings and mars from handling, storage and light use. A really fine condition example.
