Cadell and Davies Date: 1805 Description: [4], 212, [2] pp. Translated by William Falconer. With 2 folding copper-engraved maps; engraved frontispiece of coins. (4to) 27.7x21.5 cm (11x8½"), old (original?) quarter cloth & boards, rebacked with most of original spine strip & paper label laid on. Guide to the Black Sea written by the Greek historian, public servant, military commander and philosopher Arrian of Nicomedia (c.86-150 A.D.). The folding maps are of the Black Sea and its coasts, and the frontispiece depicts "Coins of Cities of the Coast of the Euxine Sea." Formerly in the Mechanics Mercantile Library of San Francisco, with circular label on front board, bookplate, withdrawn rubberstamps, etc. Laid is is a description of the restoration of the binding and the materials used. Lot Amendments Condition: Some scuffing and wear to the well-restored binding; some foxing within, very good. Item number: 273412
