Interesting little archive relating to General James H. Wilson and his extended family, political activities, family history, and more. James Harrison Wilson (September 2, 1837 – February 23, 1925) was a United States Army topographic engineer and a Union Army Major General in the American Civil War. He served as an aide to Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan during the Maryland Campaign before joining Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's army in the Western Theater, where he was promoted to brigadier general in 1864. After he left the Army, Wilson worked as a railroad construction engineer and executive. He moved to Wilmington, Delaware, in 1883. For the next 15 years he devoted his time to business, travel, and public affairs, and wrote on a number of subjects. Wilson returned to the Army in 1898 for the Spanish–American War, and served as a major general of volunteers in Cuba and Puerto Rico. The archive includes, among other items: Typescript of biographical sketch of J.H. Wilson. Seven handwritten letters from Bluford Wilson to his brother J.H. Wilson, spanning from 1862 to 1908. Four handwritten letters from James H. Wilson to various recipients. Two letters from family friend J.S. Reardon, one to J.H. Wilson, one to Bluford Wlson, both 1898. Five multi-sheet typed transcripts of letters from the King of Siam, Vajiravudh, to James H. Wilson, plus two from Wilson to the King of Siam, all dated 1912. Typescript of the 1826 will of John G. Wilson. Typed letter from a John Wyeth, discussing Wilson’s Civil War action against Nathan Bedford Forrest, 1895. Short biographical sketch of Dr. M.S. Jones, noting that his wife was the aunt of Major General Harrison Wilson, and a descendent of ex-President Harrison. Genealogical Sketch of Mary Wilson, daughter of J.H. Wilson. Typescripts of wills and other papers of family members from early 19th century. Typescript sketch of “The Wilson Family in America” compiled by Lucy Bender. Handwritten letter from a John J.
