First edition. The historian and scholar Scipione Maffei in his vast interests towards classical antiquities, gave enormous impulse and contribution to the epigraphic and lapidary study. This work contains part of the epigraphic material announced in the Prospetto of 1732, when Maffei gave life to an ambitious project that led him to travel throughout Europe with the aim of collecting and transcribing the greatest number of epigraphs to be assembled in a corpus of 10 volumes containing all the ancient inscriptions of Europe. The name of the publisher, Agostino Carattoni, from the press license to p. 8.
