Title: Approximately 150 photographs documenting aviation across the globe in the 1930s Author: ** Place: Various places Publisher: Date: 1930s Description: Approximately 150 photographs, including: 6½x8½ of an aerial view of Mussolini, Julius Coemboes (Prime Minister of Hungary) and crowd attending a celebration of the 13th birthday of the Fascist Air Service in Rome at the Litterie aerodrome. * 6½x8½ of the Captain of the "New Super Speed Plane" and Mrs. Frank Hawks, standing in front of the plane and a crowd for the Christening of their plane the "Time Flies" to launch from Hartford, Conn. * 6x8 of a glider in flight in preparation for the national contest for motorless planes to take place in Elmira, NY. * 6½x8½ of two airplanes flying over Los Angeles. * 6x4 of C.W.A. Scott. Taken in 1934 when he won the Federation Aeronautique Internationale gold medal for his flight with Mr. T. Campbell Black from London to Melbourne in 1933. * 6x8 of Clem Sohn, the "Bird Man" from U.S.A. posing before he made a flight at Hanworth Aerodrome. Claims to be the first man to have flown like a bird. * 6½x8½ of planes of the Eleventh Bombardment Wing of the First Air Division flying over Governor's Island, NY. * 6½x8½ of the three Russian fliers who completed the 5300 mile flight from Moscow at Person Field pictured in Vancouver, WA: Alexander Beliakoff, Valeri Chekaloff, and Georgi Baibukoff. * Plus many more from the US, Germany, France, Italy, China, etc. A historically rich archive of photographs documenting famous flights, aviators, dignitaries and military officials, aviation attempts, crash sites, novel aircrafts, aerial views, and more. Many images of the celebrities, and the crowds that gathered to see their attempts at grandeur in the field of aviation across the globe. Nearly all photographs are from the 1930's (with few exceptions) and are 6½x8½ (or the reverse), approximately 10 are smaller. Many have an attached typed caption from the photographers Underwood & Underwood, the remainder a typed caption affixed on verso from another source. Only a handful without any identification on verso. A collection that must be seen to be appreciated. Many with aerial views of cities such as New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, as well as unique views of aircrafts, stunts, and more. Lot Amendments Condition: Each with some edge wear, generally very light; overall very good. Item number: 208577
