I, 762; DSB II, 308 f. - Erste Ausgabe seines Hauptwerks über die Kegelschnitte. "Apollonius of Perga's treatise on conic section represents the culmination of classical Greek geometry... His 'Conics' became the canonical textbook on the subject, eclipsing all of its predecessors" (Norman). Die Bücher V.-VII. galten als verloren, bis Borelli eine arabische Handschrift von Abu 'l-Fath al-Isfahani, die auf einer Übersetzung von Thabit ibn Qurra beruht, in der Bibliotheca Medici wiederauffand und neu herausgab. Ein achtes Buch blieb verschollen. Borellis Ausgabe enthält zudem die erste Ausgabe des Archimedes zugeschriebenen "Buch der Lemmata" (Assumptorum liber), ebenfalls nach einer arabischen Übersetzung von Thabit ibn Qurra. - Gering stockfleckig, Vortitel mit hinterlegtem Randeinriss, 1 Bl. mit kl. Randeinriss. Ohne das w. Blatt nach S. 374. First edition of the books V-VII of the Conic Section, till then supposed to have been lost. They contain Apollonius' important discoveries, which earned him a place next to Euclid and Archimedes. - Faint foxing, little correction slip pasted over 1 line of text p. 312 and 352. Bound in contemp. vellum, gilt title to spine, faint rubbing, manuscript year to spine.
