APOLLO MISSION CHARTS – Three charts signed by Tom STAFFORD. Three charts inscribed and signed by Tom STAFFORD who flew on the relevant missions. Stafford's inscriptions read: " Blazing the trail for a Lunar Landing, Tom Stafford, Apollo X CDR.” and twice “ Orbital Paths of the 1 st US-Russian Docking Flight – ASTP, Tom Stafford, Apollo CDR .” The last chart is further SIGNED by Aleksei LEONOV, the first man to walk in space. Further details on this lot: 1. Apollo Translunar / Transearth Trajectory Plotting Chart (ATT), Apollo Mission 10. Edition 1, 15 April 1969. Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, USAF for NASA. 24 by 20 inches. Includes a detailed notes section at opposite lower corners having a flight time summary based on the May 18 launch date. Illustrates the test of flight procedures to the Moon and back which enabled Apollo 11 to make the first lunar landing just two months later on July 20, 1969. SIGNED and INSCRIBED: "Blazing the trail for a Lunar Landing, Tom STAFFORD, Apollo X CDR.” 2. Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP), ASTP Mission Chart, July 15, 1975. Training Edition December 1974. Defense Mapping Agency, Aerospace Center, St. Louis AFS, Missouri for NASA. Large color Earth Map, 22.25 by 55.25 inches. Full 360 degree longitudinal coverage and latitude to 65 degrees north and south. Detailed orbit tracks are shown in dark blue with actual numbers for the first 15 orbits then plotted every 15 orbits through orbit 138. This orbit terminates for the planned splashdown area near the Hawaiian Islands for the Apollo Command Module. A large detailed legend covering ¼ of the entire chart has a complete list of Apollo orbit numbers with the time and location of each ascending node (crossing the 80 degree West Meridian, just east of the Kennedy Space Center). 3. ASTP Earth Observation Map. First Operational Edition, May 1975. Large color Earth Map, 19.25 by 40 inches. Full 360 degree longitudinal coverage and latitude to 65 degrees north and south. Limited orbital paths are plotted and highlighted in a large “Swooping S-Shaped” pattern. Every fifteen orbits are plotted. The limited orbital lines aid viewing for potential Earth observational targets from space. Both ASTP Charts are INSCRIBED and SIGNED: “Orbital Paths of the 1st US-Russian Docking Flight – ASTP, Tom STAFFORD, Apollo CDR.” The training edition chart is SIGNED by ALEKSEI LEONOV, the Russian Soyuz commander and the first man to walk in space. Both ASTP charts illustrate ground tracking stations with circular shapes around the center of the station’s location. Black circular lines represent and indicate the locations of United States network stations and the red circular lines are the Russian tracking stations and locations. Both charts are in Mercator Projections with the scale at 1:40,000,000 at the equator.
