[Antwerp - Wierix] NATALIS, Hieronymus Evangelicae historiae imagines ex ordine Evangeliorum, quae toto anno in Missae sacrificio recitantur, in ordinem temporis vitae Christi digestae. Antwerp, s.n., (with additional colophon of the Nutius ed. of Natalis' "Annotationes") Folio; pl. (occ. minor staining). 18th-c. marbled calf, gilt spine with raised bands (skilfuly repaired). Famous splendid suite of large and detailed Gospel illustrations by the Wierix brothers (and some by J. & A. Collaert, C. Mallery) from Antwerp, with a short commentary by the Spanish Jesuit Nadal (1507-1580): engr. title + numbered engr. plates. Exceptional copy, interleaved with a complete French translation facing the Latin captions. Attributed (in to a French Jesuit "Grasset", probably Jean Crasset (1618-1692), the author of a.o. "Considérations chrétiennes pour tous les jours de l'année" (Paris 1683). Ref. DBS V:1518:- Mauquoy-Hendrickx "Wierix" 1989-- BT - Pettegree (NB) Prov.
