Collation: * 2, A-F 4; 21 double-page (one folding) engraved and etched plates, attributed to ABRAHAM DE BRUYN and CRISPIN VAN DEN BROECK Engraved allegorical title-border, woodcut initials. (Short tear in pl. XVIII without loss, marginal stain.) Contemporary vellum over pasteboard (crack in front cover). Provenance : Sarah Sophia Banks (inscribed "S.S. Banks 1813" at the top of the preface)(see lot 5); Richard Gurney (sold to Gourary 1954). FIRST EDITION and the only illustrated edition of an anonymous descriptive and pictorial account of the entry into Antwerp of the DUKE OF ANJOU (1555-84; youngest brother of King Henri III of France), at the invitation of William the Silent, and his coronation as Duke of Brabant. The plates show the arrival by sea, the ceremonies, the pageant, festive carriages, a decorated elephant, theatrical performances, triumphal arches, and the oath of loyalty on the crowded great square in front of town hall.
