Antique Yomut Chuval, Turkoman Yomut tribal weavers, S.W. Turkmenistan, 2nd half 19th C. Original, antique Turkoman artefacts are among the most widely collected Oriental textiles world wide. Beautifully made with a restrained colour scheme and rhythmic design they suit traditional interiors as well as contemporary. The chuval was one of the obligatory storage/saddle bags that made up a young Turkoman woman's dowry. Many pieces were never used but stored away as capital for later generations.
