Beschreibung:

Antique 49ers Gold Nugget Pendant-Necklace Rare and unusual in its large size the oversized central nugget features the iconic motifs of the gold rush with the miner's tools of pick, shovel and pan, c. mid-19th century, ap. 96.3 dwts. Length 19 inches. This necklace is a true piece of California history with a large 49er gold nugget necklace centering the iconic gold miner's pan, shovel and pick motifs. Unusual and rare in its large size and high karat gold weight, it speaks of the grand Gold Rush of Northern California in the 1849 era helping to propel the ghost town population of San Francisco and towns around the American River where gold was first discovered by James W. Marshall and the pioneer land owner John Sutter. The new discovery was hard to keep a secret for long. Word of the gold discovery brought thousands of excited new immigrants to the west in search of "El Dorado", cementing California as a US state in 1850. The history and allure of this necklace was unknown until it found its way to a hock/pawn shop in San Francisco during the Great Depression. It currently is Property of a California Family who were fortunate to inherit the necklace from their colorful and adventurous grandmother whose first husband was the owner of the hock/pawn shop in California. He knew it was something extra special and when he passed away it continued as part of the family's estate. This rare and unique necklace captures not only the beauty of large, shiny gold nuggets, but the history and magic of the Gold Rush era and the beginning of California history. C Property of a California Lady
In good condition, moderate wear to metal. Some small areas of discoloration. Clasp functioning properly.
