ANONYMOUS. Nuova pianta eleuata della nobile e cospicua citta di Venezia . No imprint: Ludovico Forlani, [after 1660]. Bird's-eye view of Venice printed from two etched copperplates on two separate Royal sheets, 590 x 500mm and smaller (etching 578 x 498mm and smaller). The title along lower margin, the lagoon decorated with the bucintoro, galleons, smallships, fishing vessels and gondole, the view includes the Giudecca and parts of Murano, Torcello, and Burano, decorative ships and gondole including the Bucintoro, compass rose. (Light staining.) A fine impression inspired by Stefano Scolari's (fl. 1598-1650) celebrated Vero e real disegno delle inclivato (?spelling?) citta di Venetia , Venice: 1660, which is otherwise known as 'The Merlo Plan'. Like lot ...., this was probably one of those included in the inventory of 1779, which was made as part of Forlani's request to the Venetian Senate for a blanket privilege covering all his works. Nothing is known of the engraver. Schultz 102?; Gallo 39.
