Beschreibung:

Andy Warhol Signed Pete Rose Print (Trial Proof #30/30) One of the leading talents in the field of "Pop Art," Warhol treated us to one artistic representation after another of common cultural items. For Warhol it was not "the medium is the message." In his eyes, the medium was, at most, only half of the artistic statement. His selected subject matter was, at least, equally as important. After skewering mass advertising, Warhol turned his deadpan take on mass-media image overload with portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe Elizabeth Taylor, and Marlon Brando, as well as political figures including Mao Tse-Tung, Che Guevara, and Jackie Onassis. Warhol's fascination with celebrity subjects as cultural icons continued throughout his life, and in hindsight we can now see that his experimental works actually led to a revival of the genre of portraiture. Warhol was commissioned to produce the original for this Pete Rose portrait print, in 1985. The portrait was, of course, to commemorate Rose's September 11, 1985 feat of breaking Ty Cobb's long-standing record for lifetime hits, and Warhol has placed his Rose image within the graphic design of the Topps baseball cards for that year. This print of the portrait is a limited Trial Proof (#30 of a total of 30, each of which is subtly unique in color design), done in the screenprint process on high quality Lenox Museum Board. It measures approximately 39" by 31" and has been matted to leave an exposed image area of 30 1/2" by 38 1/2". The matted work is now held in a 41" by 49" frame (some minor imperfections in the wood). Warhol has darkly signed and numbered the print on the bottom right margin in pencil, "TP 30/30 - Andy Warhol" (10/10). LOAs from PSA DNA and JSA.
