Beschreibung:

A Latvian silver tankard, gilt interior, of cylinder shape, applied leaf decoration above three pomegranate supports, the cover with Dattler medal of Gustav II Adolf, 1631, the medal engraved with owner’s initials A and G, the side of the cover engraved with monogram NP, forked leaf thumbpiece, scroll handle. Andreas Brackfeldt, Riga 1661–1696. Weight 864 g. H. 17 cm. Latvia’s capital Riga belonged to Sweden 1621–1710 and was at the time the largest city in the Swedish kingdom. Then Latvia belonged to Russia until the declaration of independence in 1918. Provenance: Hjalmar Hartmann (1870–1945), Danish Consul General of Lithuania 1926–1928, landowner and founder of Hjalmar Hartmann & Co., which was based on seed breeding, import and export of seeds, plants and trees. Thence by Hjalmar Hartmann’s grandchild until today.
