Half title, coloured lithographed frontispiece and 11 plates by Leighton Bros. after Eleanor Vere Boyle (Some very light marginal thumb soiling.) Original blue pictorial cloth gilt (extremities lightly rubbed, corners frayed). Provenance : "To another fairy named ?'Gil' - March 20th '83 - in the moon" (inscription on front free endpaper). Osborne II, 579. On December 10, 1871, Hans Christian Andersen wrote to Horace Scudder, "No book of mine has ever been as beautifully got up as this ..." (see Osborne). SEE PLATE I.
