Beschreibung:

New Anatomical Museum 310 Broadway. Just Opened Containing Heineman's Great Collection of Wax Models representing the various parts of the system, both in health and disease. Among the number is a Splendid Female Figure, representing in the most natural and striking manner the origin and development of human life. Also, a Magnificent Full Sized Venus the most perfect and wonderful piece of art ever seen. Also, the Zuetter, Half Man & Half Woman . . . Admittance, 25 cents. Open from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m. Children not admitted. Nothing offensive, except to the impure.
New York:] John Hall [circa 1850?]. Broadside (approximately 36 x 23 1/2 inches, 915x600 mm). Illustrated with 9 woodcuts of various anatomical elements to be viewed at the museum. Condition: Folds, with minor separations and small areas of loss at intersections. Framed and glazed. extremely unusual illustrated broadside ad for a quack museum on broadway, contemporary with p. t. barnum. Anatomical museums were similar to the dime freak show museums made famous by Barnum. As this broadside suggests, anatomical specimens (though generally wax models) were displayed. Besides entertainment for the curious, the museums were largely used as a means of advertisement for quack medicines. Little information is extant about this museum and we could find no other known copies of this broadside.
