An unusual wood and metal display model of a ship's block making workshop of circa 1750 built by I. Wilkie. Measurements overall - 8½ x 21ins (21.5 x 53.3cms) The workshop is shown in a simulated brick structure with windows and opening front displaying the various stages in the making of a single sheave block by hand before the introduction of machinery. The interior with a pole lathe, a wheel driven lathe, benches, various tools, sawdust, leather aprons and other appropriate paraphernalia. The ceiling beams are supported by a single centre column with suspended block and tackle on a plank floor. All with natural wood or brick finish. See illustration
