An unusual French giant gilt-brass striking carriage clock with calendar b, no.939. late 19th century The two-tiered case with pilasters to the angles of the top section and arched glass side panels, the lower section with stylised pilasters to the angles and vacant shield mounts to the solid sides, solid rear door, with curved openwork handle and on bun feet, the white enamel Roman chapter ring with gilt divisions (cracks), gilt hands, with conforming calendar dial below, the outer ring for date and the inner ring for day of week, painted with a moon in the sky to the centre, the twin barrel movement with quatrefoil viewing glass to the replaced lever escapement, strike on gong to the backplate stamped B , possibly for Brunelot, and numbered 939 9½in. (24cm.) high
