AN UNUSUAL CENTRAL ITALIAN ROMAN-LOCK BLUNDERBUSS with belled three-stage iron barrel stamped with Pistoia mark on the octagonal breech, engraved and chiselled lock with a grotesque mask in relief on the tail and the back of the steel, and engraved on the inside with the latters 'P.A.P', walnut three-quarter stock carved in relief with scrollwork terminating in caryatids and monster-heads, all on a dotted ground, and with a garland of flowers and foliage at the barrel tang, flat border engraved iron mounts including side-plate (probably originally with belt hook), iron ramrod-pipes (tail-pipe replaced), and wooden ramrod with iron baluster tip, first half of the 18th Century 37in.
