Flat lockplate with beveled rim, flat swan-necked cock and marked on the interior PB in a rectangular cartouche. Brass furniture in the Land Pattern style except for the broad, scrolling counterplate. Wrist with oval escutcheon inscribed Inde/pen/dence above a laurel wreath, the incription probably commemorative. Full cherry wood stock with simple relief panel at barrel tang and prominent comb. Condition: Very good. Barrel with dark patina. Lock with brown patina lightly pitted overall. Counterplate a restoration. Lock possibly an expert reconversion. Generally clean wood showing scattered light marks, chipping at some pins and with grain splits to buttstock. Sling swivels missing. See Illustration
