An unusual 5 inch gauge wooden and metal model of the LBSR Peacock class 2-4-0 locomotive and tender No.8 ‘Isfield’, built by the late Mr F Roach in 1895 assisted by his father. Mr Roach who was station Master at Brighton and retired in 1947. Model took 16 months to build. The locomotive has much detailing including detailed rivet-work, brake gear, steps and hand irons. The cab with regulator, water sight-glass and direction control lever. Tender with coal and tool boxes sign written Driver. R Dyer. Fireman. J Barber. The model finished in traditional livery and set on a display track in its original glazed mahogany display case having turned corner columns on bun feet with removable top. Case dimensions: Length 135cm. Depth 30cm. Height 50cm. Schedule of materials used. The main components are of pitch pine with wheels constructed from mahogany. Some steel and brass work. * Provenance: Purchased Lot 203 Christies London 5th of November 2003 at a cost of £1,567.31 Original receipt comes with the model. Also letter from the builder.
