AN UNSIGNED JAPANESE KATANA, possibly 17th century, the 26 1/2in. curving re-polished blade shortened at both the tang and the tip or 'kissaki' (chipped), full length 'bo-hi' running off the end of the tang, four remount holes or 'mekugi-ana', circular moulded iron 'tsuba' pierced and embossed with cherry blossoms, cotton wrapped rayskin hilt with running vine 'menuki' and embossed iron 'fuchi' and 'kashira' with precious metal accents (losses to binding, the whole composed) and complete with a black laquered scabbard or 'saya' with alternating bands of gloss and matt (restored)
