Unknown photographer: An original black-and-white photograph of Sir Winston Churchill (1874–1965). Back with date of publication (February 1st 1965), Associated Press stamp and telegram shred concerning the death of Winston Churchill on January 24th 1965. Photo size 21.5×18 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm. By royal decree Churchill's corpse was put on lit the parade for three days at the end of January 1965, which was followed by a state funeral in St Paul's Cathedral. Heads of state and members of royal houses from all over the world gathered on this occasion and even Queen Elizabeth participated, something highly unusual. When the lead lined coffin was taken up the Thames the dock workers of London lowered their cranes as a last salute to the man, who had fought so stubbornly for their city. Churchill was later buried in the hamlet of Bladon, six kilometres north-west of Oxford.
