AN ITALIAN SPECIMEN MARBLE TOP ON AN EARLY VICTORIAN GREEN-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT BASE THE TOP BY ALFONSO CAVAMELLI, CIRCA 1846, THE BASE CIRCA 1850 The circular top inlaid with marbles including giallo di Siena , brocatello di Spagna , verde antico , bianco e nero antico , and semi-precious stones including malachite, jaspers, agate, aventurine, lapis lazuli , red porphyry, green porphyry, Swedish porphyry, chalcedony and alabastro fiorito , in a geometric pattern within a white marble rim, on three dolphin supports and scalloped plinth with foliate-carved feet and recessed castors, redecorated and re-supported, the white marble rim probably added in England by 1850 30¼ in. (77 cm.) high; 53½ in. (136 cm.) diameter
