AN IRIDESCENT GLASS VASE BY LOETZ Oviform with pinched sides and four upturned and crimped handles, the rose gold iridescent ground decorated with a rainbow iridescent oil spot motif-- 12in. (30cm.) high This vase and the following example can be dated circa 1902. Tÿhe decoration dates back to 1901, and is called rosa Phänomen Gre 1/473 , which is a variant of the Iris papillon decoration. By 1902, Loetz had developed its own style in glass, moving beyond its initial efforts to copy Tiffany Studios' glass designs. Using a technique of pulling the handles out of the main body and extending the decoration into them, Loetz created a distinctive feature in their vessels. cf.
