Containing over 250 photographs, including 5 good group photographs of the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers trooping the colour on ''Minden Day'' at Dublin Castle, 1st August 1920, along with numerous photographs of officers and men of the regiment in Ireland during the War of Independence, on parade and in barracks, including one particularly interesting photograph of the regiment taking part in a march-past and parading a captured tricolour, plus interior and exterior views of a First World War period officer's hospital, many of the officer patients depicted undergoing treatment or receiving attention from nurses, and a selection of photographs taken during the inter-war years, etc. Lot accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Lonsdale's photocopied service details and photocopied extracts from the regimental journal of the Lancashire Fusiliers concerning the regiment's service in Ireland 1920-22. The former document, comprising detailed particulars of Lonsdale's service history, in his own hand, covers his 29 years with the Lancashire Fusiliers, Reserve of Officers and Home Guard, during which time he saw active service in France & Flanders, 1916-1918, with the 19th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, and in Ireland, 1920-22, with the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, during the closing stages of the Irish War of Independence. Lonsdale was severely wounded on 15th April 1918 at Mount Kemmel, during the German Spring Offensive. His wounds were so severe that he spent 17 months recuperating in the Auxiliary Hospital for Officers at Escrick Park, York, and the Mont Dor Officers Military Convalescent Hospital, Bournemouth, and did not return to duty again until September 1919. On 28th March 1920 he proceeded with the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers to Dublin. His battalion remained in Dublin until 15th December 1922, continuously engaged on escort duties, patrols and raids, and was involved in many of the more important events of the period, officers and men of the battalion taking part in the capture and identification of Kevin Barry and two officers of the regiment, Lieutenant-Colonel Woodcock D.S.O. and Captain Keenlyside, M.C., both being killed during Michael Collins's Bloody Sunday attacks of 21st November 1920. During the inter-war years Lonsdale saw further service with the Lancashire Fusiliers in India and Palestine, retiring from the army on 11th March 1936 and transferring to the Reserve of Officers. Lonsdale was recalled for service during the Second World War, when he served in a variety of capacities, being at various times the Local Defence Commander, Ballykelly, Northern Ireland, Local Defence Adviser, Belfast R.A.F. Station, and Local Defence Adviser at R.A.F. Cosford. Lonsdale was promoted Major, 28th August 1939, Lieutenant-Colonel, 7th November 1941, and was invalided out of the army in March 1945, as a ''result of previous war wounds''.
