An Indian 18th or early-19th century sword with a curved blade and 'Hindu basket' hilt. The basket hilt of a type found on earlier 17th century swords and continued into the 18th century, with khanda/patissa style crossguard, guard plate and pommel, with added broad knucklebow at the front. Also with a pommel stalk curving forwards and with small knob end. Small punched holes in the guard plate for the addition of a liner (now absent). The curved blade of flat wedge-section, single-edged, with inlay brass motif/script (perhaps a maker's mark). Blade 75cm, overall length 93cm.
