An impressive French mahogany and ebonised wood automaton table clock Frs. Guy A Saint Foy. Circa 1800 The case flanked by outset ebonised columns with ormolu capitals and ebonised urn finials, doors to the sides, the moulded base on large bun feet, ogee-moulded detachable pediment beneath the automaton cockerel, the 12in. diameter convex white enamel dial with Arabic hour and minute chapters, inner concentric calendar ring, blued steel hands, the gilt-metal dial plate painted with two classical busts to the upper spandrels and an hour glass and a bow and quiver to the lower spandrels, the movement with steel plates, going train with spring barrel and five wheel train with delicate crossings, anchor escapement with silk suspended pendulum, strike train with going barrel, fly with four iron vanes and strike on a large bell setting off the automaton carousel carrying robed monks and a cardinal all brandishing axes, the cockerel above with automaton wings, beak and head crowing on a flute vial bellows 44½in. (113cm.) high
