AN IMPORTANT HISTORIC COLT .45 CAL. SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER, SERIAL No. 129210 Bob Dalton is most notorious for his life as a train and bank robber; he and his gang are famous for their attempt to rob two banks at once. Bob, his brothers Grat and Emmet, together with Bill Powers, Bill Doolin, and Dick Broadwell attempted to rob the C.M. Condon and First National banks of Coffeyville, Kansas on October 5th, 1892. From the start the robbery plan was a failure. The gang was spotted coming into town, and the citizens of Coffeyville were alerted. While Bob and Emmet robbed the First National of $21,000, the others attempted to rob the C.M. Condon Bank. Quickly armed citizens advanced and a deadly shooting spree ensued, in which Bob, his brother Grat, Bill Powers, Dick Broadwell and four citizens of Coffeyville were killed. This raid is famous in the Old West, because of their failures; and because of the numbers of those killed. Presented with this revolver are documents including: a Colt Factory letter dated July 8, 1998; a notarised statement from Preston Rose; buyer of the revolver in 1971 from the disposition sale of the Wirsing Gun Shop; the original auction list, paid receipt and cancelled check; an original ledger book of the Wirsing Gun Shop from 1926 detailing stock with a note written by James Serven the famous Colt collector. This revolver was manufactured by Colt in 1889.
