An important collection of original illustrations, artwork, prints, proofs etc for various editions of the children’s classic novel; BLACK BEAUTY by ANNA SEWELL (1820-1878), including C Hewitt original pen, ink and wash painting used as the frontispiece for the 1st edition of Black Beauty published in 1877, which was captioned “The moon had just risen…”, approx size 180 x 130mm, mounted on card + JOHN BEER (1860-1930), signed pen, ink and wash portrait on card of Anna Sewell, approx size 215 x 190mm + approx 30 further mainly pen and ink illustrations by Beer for the book published in 1894 and 14 autograph letters signed by the artist + some telegrams to the publishers re his work on the illustrations etc + WINIFRED AUSTEN (1876-1964), original pen, ink and wash portrait on board of “Black Beauty”, as used for the front cover of the book published in 1904, approx size 160 x 130mm + MAUDE SCRIVENER, 3 original signed watercolours on boards for the book published in 1909, each approx size 280 x 195mm + other sundry items including 4 various copies of the book in mixed condition etc
