AN IMPORTANT AND EXTREMELY RARE TIXI LACQUER SADDLE YUAN DYNASTY (1279-1368) The horse saddle is comprised of a leather-bound wooden seat and two upright wooden ends covered with tixi black lacquer, carved through thick layers of lacquer with sword pommel scrolls surrounded by a keyfret rim. Each end has a metal handle suspending loose ring for attachment. The underside is covered with leather. 22 1/4 in. (56.5 cm.) wide, Japanese wood box
