AN ILLUSTRATION TO A RAGAMALA SERIES: KHAMBAVATI ( KHAMBAJ ) RAGINI PROVINCIAL MUGHAL, CIRCA 1800 Opaque pigments and gold on paper, a lady depicted worshipping the four-headed Brahma, a standing female attendant holding a chowri behind the deity, the scene set at night, the shrine under a starry sky, a fountain in the foreground, laid down on light pink margins with gold floral illuminations, identification in Urdu at top reading Kham Baj Ragini Dipak , numbered "32" in the lower margin, the margins faded by the sun, otherwise in good condition, the reverse with old European inscriptions in pencil, mounted, framed and glazed Painting 9 5/8 x 5¾in. (24.5 x 14.6cm.); page 17 x 9 5/8in. (43.3 x 24.5cm.)
