An illuminated Qur'an seventh (subu' IV), Egypt or Syria, Mamluk, circa 1300 AD text: surah Ibrahim (XIV), part of verse 46 to end of surah al-mu'minun (XXIII) Arabic manuscript on paper, 154 leaves, at least 1 folio lacking at beginning, 7 lines to the page, written in muhaqqaq script in black ink, verses separated by pointed gold florets, catchwords, fifth and tenth verses marked in the margin by illuminated devices in red, blue and gold, 9 surah headings in gold thuluth script against hatched panels with scrolling vines and medallion extending into the margin, f.1a with the left-hand page of a frontispiece composed of geometric motifs, strapwork and arabesque designs in blue, red and gold, following page with illuminated opening panel with text within cloud bands against a ground hatched in red and gold with cintamani motifs, headings above and below in blue thuluth script, composite tooled Mamluk binding, with flap 28.8 by 19.7cm.
