An Illuminated Qur'an, copied by Ali Ibn Khawaja Nour Ali Ibn Khawala Muhammad Muraqsani Alawi al-Harawi, Persia or India, Safavid or Mughal, dated 1138 AH/1725 AD Arabic manuscript on paper, 338 leaves plus a flyleaf, 12 lines to the page, separated by double gold rules, written in neat naskh script in black ink, verses separated by gold dots, surah headings in white thuluth script against a gold ground cartouche, the spandrels filled with polychrome floral motifs, catchwords, illuminated marginal devices, opening illuminated double page index of surahs, with outer margins of large scrolling flowers, further illuminated double page frontispiece for surah al-fatiha and following headpiece for surah al-baqarah with ensuite decoration, corresponding double page finispiece followed by colophon, Qajar lacquer binding decorated with large flowering plants 30 by 20.8cm.
