An exhibition standard 5 inch gauge model of LNWR Precedent Class 2-4-0 tender locomotive No 2187 'Penrith Beacon', built by the late Alan Ashberry in five inch gauge but normally found in 3 1/2 inch gauge to the LBSC's design 'Mabel'. Alan Ashberry used photographs of the preserved example 'Hardwicke' at the National Railway Museum and used Allen valve gear adopted by the Martin Evans design. The silver soldered copper boiler having back-head fittings including steam pressure gauge, water sight glass, regulator and other usual fittings. The chassis with inside cylinders and motion, water feed pump, water injector, mechanical lubricator, whistle and screw reversing control. The six-wheel tender with fitted water hand feed pump. The model finished in traditional lined livery with locomotive name plate to splashers and cab side number plates, fitted handrails, steps and buffers. Boiler History: Some past boiler history including the last hydraulic and steam test certificates dated the 14th of July 2008 * The locomotive was built over a period of ten years and was completed in 1979. It was awarded a 'Highly Commended' certificate at the 1980 Model Engineering Exhibition at Wembley in 1980. The model was last run on the track at Chipperfield in the early 2000's.
