An exceptionally well made and definitive 1/8 scale (7¼-inch gauge) fully working model of the London and North Western Railway 3-cylinder compound 2-2-2-2T locomotive No. 600, the prototype having been designed by Francis W. Webb in 1887 The Model This quite outstanding model, properly finished in wholly authentic LNWR black livery, lined in red, cream and grey, was built to the very highest standards by P. DuPen and is of genuine museum quality in both mechanical and external (cosmetic) terms, albeit that some of its mechanical details have been designed so as to permit reliable operation if so desired. The model incorporates all the essential prototype features of the original design. These include correct pattern Joy valve gear to the outside (high pressure) cylinders with slip-eccentric to the single inside (low pressure) cylinder. Drain cocks, operated from the cab, are fitted to all three cylinders. The cab fittings and controls are all extremely well made and of very good appearance incorporating, amongst others, boiler and steam chest pressure gauges and a mechanical lubricator. The radial 'pony trucks' at both ends of the ensemble have side control springing and coil suspension is fitted to all axles; but the leading leaf springs are dummy. Power and hand brakes are provided and there are two injectors. Ramsbottom safety valves are provided and the rear spectacle plate and cab roof are wholly removable to allow access to the controls when in working configuration. Working compound locomotive models of this type are extremely rare and this example is a most exceptional and highly interesting example 135cm. (53in.) long See Colour Illustration
