Beschreibung:

all with W.H. Culver, Maiden, M.T. stamped imprint on reverse, includes two 6" x 7.8" on slightly larger card stock, first showing 32 soldiers of Co. A, likely 1st Cavalry Regiment standing on the porch and steps of a frame barracks building, most are armed with Springfield trapdoor carbines and a few have M1860 sabers, the company mascot, a hound, is also in the photograph. The second image of that size shows the interior of one of the officer's homes with his wife and child seated in an ornately decorated Victorian parlor. The group also includes three 6.4" x 9.5" photos, one showing a troop of mounted cavalry in dress uniforms and helmets with fort buildings in background. The next shows the front of an officers home with four cavalry officers on porch, one wife, two Chinese house servants and one enlisted man tending saddled horses. The last of this size shows the corner brick bank building in Maiden, M.T. The next two images, both a bit light, are 4.5" x 9.5" and include a view of the entire fort taken from approximately a quarter mile away with mountains in background and two officers inspecting enlisted men tending to their mounts with fort buildings in background. The last two images are 5.5" x 8.25" and show cowboys herding and branding cattle. Fort Maginnis was constructed in 1880-81, and was one of a series of frontier posts built after the Custer Massacre. Maginnis was constructed to protect a stream of miners that flowed into the territory, near the tent city of Maiden. By 1881, Maiden had grown to a town of nearly 6000; by 1883 the boom was over, and the population quickly dwindled to less than a few hundred. In 1905 the town burned, and today is only a memory . Condition: Overall images very good, but a few mounts have bumped corners and chips missing.
