Beschreibung:

Comprising a field cannon and two gunners, the cannon barrel multi-staged and decorated with raised mouldings, the muzzle encircled by a raised band of ovals in front of a band of raised beadwork, the chase carved in low relief against a punched ground with the royal arms of France, modern, ensigned with a monarchial crown and with supporters in the form of winged putti, the inscriptions 'Franciscvs. Dei. Gracia / Francorum. Rex' above, and 'Henrico. VIII. Dei. Gracia / Angliae. &. Hiberniae. Rex' beneath, all between bands of strapwork and foliage, the first reinforce carved in relief with a putto blowing a trumpet from which hangs a banner with a crowned letter 'F' over crossed branches of laurel and palm, between elaborate scrolling foliage, all on a punched ground, foliated dolphin lifting handles carved in the round, plain trunnions, and turned cascabel carved with overlapping scales on the button and issuing from acanthus: on finely constructed field carriage with spoked wheels and open trail, all with simulated iron mounts, the trail carved in low relief along both sides with three cartouches against a stippled ground, and framing an oval carved in bas-relief with a battle scene involving mounted horsemen and foot-soldiers, at the top of each cartouche a moustachioed Turk's head, a patriarchal cross, and a coronet respectively, the bearded gunners each carrying a cup-hilt rapier and wearing a plumed broad-brimmed hat (one plume replaced), one gunner leaning over to sight the cannon, the other standing by, gesturing towards the target and holding a linstock with burning match, an ivory ramrod and stack of five cannonballs lying nearby (old splits): on an ebonised wooden plinth raised on four turned bun feet 59.7 cm. long, 33.5 cm. wide, 33.6 cm. high
