Putnam County, Ohio 5-1/8 inches Made from dark green, banded slate; with a concentric circle eye that terminates near the top of the head on the right side. This is one of the five birdstones in the Sorgenfrei collection that was originally collected by the pioneer birdstone collector, Harry B. Mapel of Columbus Grove, Ohio. By 1914, Mapel had 16 birdstones pictured in The Archaeological Bulletin. It was found near the Ottawa and Blanchard Rivers near Kalida, Ohio.
